Tammy Waddell, was an elementary school teacher in Georgia, she died from colon cancer at the age of 58. During her funeral, instead of getting flowers from guests, her funeral was filled with backpacks. Her final wish was for people to bring backpacks full of school supplies for students in need.
More than 100 backpacks full of supplies were donated. When photos of Waddell’s funeral went viral, her family was cotacted by the Tes resources, a non-profit organization that help teachers around the world. The organization decided to honor waddell by donating thousands of school supplies tp her school district’s students.
Dr. Brand Johnson tweeted:
My cousin’s final request at her funeral was Backpacks full of supplies for needy students instead of flowers. A teacher to the end,” he tweeted, along with a moving photo from the funeral that showed backpacks lining the aisle.
